China, Hong Kong Brace for Potential Record-Breaking Rainfall

Climate change is exacerbating China’s long history of extreme weather events. In 2020, floods killed hundreds in the central province of Henan and rain brought the Three Gorges Dam reservoir to a record high level. According to the National Meteorological Center, heavy rain in southern regions will be adverse for the wheat crop, increasing the risks of overall food security. And in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, market hours may oscilate depending on the level of the alert due to rainstorm warnings, with "black level" -- the most severe - expected to be reached.
